Chapter 5 - Friday 9pm

It had been a manic week. Raj had been working eighteen hour days to wrap up his projects so that he could take the following week off. He had travelled directly from the office to the airport and met his parents, who had been kind enough to bring his luggage to the airport. The check in process had been uneventful, they had travelled through the airline security checks together, had a quick coffee and now were seated together in their designated seats, ready for takeoff.

Mrs Gupta was a nervous flier so the two gentlemen were sitting on either side of her, Raj near the aisle and Dr Gupta by the window. Raj had suggested that his mother be placed near the window, and his dad in the middle, but hadn’t managed to convince his old man!

The flight was scheduled to arrive in Mumbai in 8 hours and 45 minutes, which was 11.15am Mumbai time. They had planned to go directly to Bandra and stay at Raj’s paternal grandparents apartment.

“Go to sleep straight after dinner, we’ve got a big day tomorrow!” His mother advised.

“I’ll sleep when we get there, there are a few movies I’m interested in watching.” Raj said, while eating his tasteless salad.

“There will be no time to sleep when we get there. There will be guests to meet.” She said. “Your grandparents have organised for some family and friends to come for lunch, and then we have dinner at my parents home.”

“If I had known, I would have flown in with Varun tomorrow, after a good nights sleep. I've had a terrible week. I just wanted to relax tomorrow.” Raj began attacking his pasta with more aggression than necessary.

“Well you can sleep now. I’m sure you will be fine once you’ve had some rest.” She said.

Raj knew there was no point arguing, if he tried to read a book or watch a movie she would keep bugging him until he closed his eyes and faked sleep, so he may as well actually try to get some rest. Raj closed his eyes and within seconds he was fast asleep.
